A year-round option

Undoubtedly, this time of year brings about a renewed focus on the opportunity for creative, value-added foiling. With attention turning to sparkly, shiny finishes that can positively influence the bottomline, it is natural for discussions to touch on whether foiling can be an affordable all year round option.

The reality is that it can with the Foliant Multi-functional Inprinting Unit. It makes foiling and spot varnish fast and cost effective for short-run and personalised print. Easily retrofittable to Foliant laminators, the unit can quickly transform business cards, luxury packaging, letterheads, stationery, wedding stationery, high end print, book covers, greeting cards and security print.

It applies foil or varnish to a pre-printed black toner. The sheet can then be reprinted mono or four colour. There is a wide range of metallic colour options including gold, silver, red and green and a clear gloss for spot varnish.

There is even clear for a Spot UV effect.  And with printable foil you can print directly onto the foil and create metallic inks.

And because no die is required it is a much faster and cost effective process. It can also be introduced smoothly and start making a profitable contribution very quickly.

We are seeing a number of our clients adding the process to expand their offering, open up new possibilities and strengthen existing relationships. The ability to add striking results to enhance regular jobs has also helped them demonstrate ongoing investment and the ability to add new services supports a collaborative, customer-centric approach.

So, all that remains is educating brand owners and marketers about the benefits of creating more engaging designs – designs that demonstrate how print can be a shining light in an effective marketing and communication mix.

Adding value to print

Martyn Train, managing director, Duplo UK

Since the UK is such a diverse country with so many cultures and demographics, seasonal printing is hugely important to many if not most of our customers. Helping them purchase the right equipment to grow their services and their customer base is important to us.

We help printers take a sheet of printed paper and add value to it, making it a more saleable and profitable product – whether through UV coating, 3D foiling, perforating, laminating or any of the multitude of finishing techniques.

This allows printers to retain their existing customers by improving services and showing that they are willing to take steps to grow the businesses of the end user, to invest in the right equipment and show that they are forever evolving.

By adding these special effects during these high value periods, printers can differentiate themselves from the competition, being different allows you to change the game and the nature of the business, constantly moving forward means that you’ll always be ahead of the curve.
