Environment and sustainability important for BPIF

The environment and sustainability are important for most industries, but are a particular focus for packaging companies, as their programmes and efforts to create a greener product are more felt by the company and the public.

The event discussed apprenticeships and key topics in the carton industry

Whether an item is recyclable or not is something that everyone will look at when in the shop or in the kitchen. Most items are recyclable these days, and companies have to offer more from their packaging to compete.

British Printing Industries Federation’s special interest group, BPIF Cartons, held an event recently at Leicester Racecourse to present key topics for the carton industry, with the background to apprenticeships, and the environment subjects that were brought up by the general manager.

The evening was attended by members from the industry, trade suppliers, and carton converters.

The event coincides with an exciting time for the carton sector particularly as the environment and true sustainability plans are the forefront of many brand-owners’ minds

General manager of BPIF Cartons, Jon Clark, says: “It was great to welcome both new and familiar faces to this popular event which was attended by over 40 people. These occasions provide an ideal opportunity to update members on key issues such as the ever-changing background to UK apprenticeships, and the informal atmosphere in the evening allowed attendees to relax and meet the suppliers.

“This was the first members’ event since we’ve reinvigorated the committee and we have a number of plans to communicate to members over the coming months. The event coincides with an exciting time for the carton sector particularly as the environment and true sustainability plans are the forefront of many brand-owners’ minds. Folding cartons provide a strong retail shelf presence, are readily recyclable and enjoy an unmatched carbon footprint—no other packaging material can offer all these advantages.”
